Oklahoma City metro-area grocery staple Crest Foods has announced it will be doing away with paper sacks to bag customers groceries.
The company said grocery sackers will not be fired, but rather become cashiers or moved to other departments. The changes are due to rising costs, and an effort to save customers money, the company said.
In an attempt to ease the minds of customers who are concerned about the environmental impact of switching to plastic bags, Crest stores will now have recycling bins located outside where customers can recycle their bags.
While the company assured customers it would still offer a fast and friendly checkout service, many who commented on the Facebook post were unhappy about the changes coming. Several commenters said offering paper sacks and an employee who carefully bags your groceries and will even help you load your car was one of the main reasons they shopped at Crest.
Crest Foods did not immediately respond to request for comment.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
