Members of St. Martin’s Episcopal, Trinity Lutheran, 1st Church, Christ Church UCC churches enjoy the potluck dinner.

Rev. Jon Gilbert Martinez, pastor of Christ Church UCC, hosted a Plastic Recycling Challenge Celebration potluck on Saturday, Oct. 19, for four local churches that collected 1,000 pounds each of plastic.

Donna Adam of the Clean Up – Give Back Program introduced Christ Church to the program’s plastic bag drive. Pastor Gilbert and the Christ Church Outreach Committee challenged and invited local churches to collect plastic for recycling.

Each church that collected 1,000 pounds of plastic bags in one year would win a recycled bench from Trex.

Four churches accepted the challenge and won a bench. They were St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Rev. M. E. Eccles, pastor; Trinity Lutheran Church, Pastor Linda Thurston; First Church, Rev. Hope Chernich, senior pastor; and Christ Church UCC, Rev. Jon Gilbert Martinez, pastor.
