SNACK lovers have been left feeling queasy after discovering what microwave popcorn really looks like before being cooked.

Although popcorn is a favourite sweet or salty treat for many foodies, they were shocked to see what's going on inside the sealed bags.

This comes after one food fan was curious to see what the kernels looked like so decided to rip open a bag to see for themselves.

The Reddit user revealed the popcorn probably has more butter than most, since it's the Kirkland 'movie theatre butter' popcorn.

"So yeah definitely extra butter," they wrote.

They shared a snap of the congealed kernels on Reddit, and the image has put some food fans off it for good.

The image shows the golden popcorn kernels stuck together by a hard mass of white butter.

One person said: "This almost ruined popcorn for me. Almost."

A second wrote: "Thanks, I hate it.

Meanwhile, someone else said: "It looks like bird suet"

Not everyone was shocked by the pre-cooked popcorn though, as some thought it looked exactly how they expected it to.

One commented on the post: "It's exactly what it feels like. Do you people not massage the bag before you put it in the microwave?"

"Don't know what else you were anticipating," another quipped.

And other food fans said they prefer to make the snack themselves, rather than use the microwave bags.

"Yea just do regular kernels over the stove, it's so much cheaper and tastes better, one said.
