Pottstown man sent to jail on drug trafficking charges

NORRISTOWN — A Pottstown man was sent to jail on drug trafficking-related

NORRISTOWN — A Pottstown man was sent to jail on drug trafficking-related charges after police found him in possession of suspected fentanyl in a vehicle in the borough.

Myleck Nigia Winston, 29, of the 400 block of Elm Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 11½ to 23 months in the county jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession with intent to deliver controlled substances in connection with a December 2021 incident in the borough.

Judge Virgil B. Walker, who accepted a plea agreement in the case, also ordered Winston, formerly of the 200 block of Henry Street in the borough, to complete two years’ probation following parole, meaning Winston will be under court supervision for about four years.

An investigation began about 8:56 a.m. Dec. 24, 2021, when Pottstown police responded to a parking lot at the rear of an address in the unit block of West Fourth Street for a report of the driver of a Chevrolet Impala passed out behind the wheel of the vehicle, according to a criminal complaint filed by Pottstown Police Officer Ryan Guth.

When police arrived at the location they made contact with Winston and observed in the driver's door a knotted, clear bag containing suspected cocaine powder, two plastic bags wrapped in aluminum foil containing suspected crack cocaine and a bundle of seven wax paper bags of suspected heroin/fentanyl bound by a rubber band, according to the arrest affidavit.

Police also observed $135 cash in the driver's side door, court papers indicate.

Winston consented to a search of the vehicle and that search by police uncovered a box of sandwich-type bags similar to those used to package narcotics, police alleged. Investigators also received Winston's consent to search his cellphone and "observed several conversations involving the sale and pricing of controlled substances," Guth alleged in the criminal complaint.

Police alleged the seized drugs were packaged in a manner which was consistent with how heroin/fentanyl and cocaine are usually bagged and sold for street sale or possession.

"There were no factors that would lead an experienced officer to think it was not heroin/fentanyl and cocaine," Guth alleged.

The substances were submitted to a lab for analysis.

Winston also pleaded guilty to another charge of possession with intent to deliver fentanyl in connection with a separate Aug. 16, 2022, incident that occurred in the 200 block of North Keim Street in the borough, according to court documents.

Other charges of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal use of a communication facility were dismissed against Winston as part of the plea agreement.
